Alcohol Withdrawal

• Treatment of alcohol withdrawal should be guided by symptom severity (e.g., CIWA-Ar score). • Benzodiazepines are first-line therapy. Use cautiously in patients with respiratory depression or hepatic dysfunction. • Monitor airway, breathing, and hemodynamics closely.

• Thiamine 100 mg IV/IM before glucose to prevent Wernicke's encephalopathy. • Folate 1 mg IV/PO daily. • Multivitamin (banana bag). • Magnesium replacement if low. • IV fluids for volume depletion.
